About Us

School Overview

The secondary school is located directly on the main road that was named after it. While this location gives the school a prominent presence in the city, it also presents several challenges, including heavy traffic congestion and vehicle noise. Efforts are currently underway to establish a second entrance to the school from a quieter road, although some obstacles remain, including the private ownership of the neighboring land.
Aley Official Secondary School was founded on January 1, 1969, in a small building near the market, under the leadership of Principal Mr. Khaled Abd El Samad. From the beginning, teaching was offered in both the French and English sections at the secondary level only, with 133 students enrolled during the first academic year.
In the academic year 1971–1972, the school moved to its current campus, which originally consisted of two buildings. Due to increasing demand and enrollment growth, the intermediate level was added in 1973. Thanks to the positive leadership of the principal, the number of students grew significantly. However, following the outbreak of the Lebanese Civil War, Mr. Khaled Abd El Samad moved to the central administration in Beirut, and Mr. Shafik Fakih was appointed principal in 1975.
Student enrollment continued to rise and reached its peak during the 1977–1978 academic year, when 1,775 students were registered. Because the school could no longer accommodate this large number, a double-shift teaching system was adopted, with morning and afternoon sessions alternating between the French and English sections.

Later, due to the war, the Israeli invasion, and the opening of additional secondary schools in the region, enrollment declined to 368 students during the 1985–1986 academic year. In 1987, the intermediate level was cancelled, and teaching became limited to one building, while the second building was used by the Lebanese University – Faculty of Business Administration, which later became an official university branch.

After the retirement of Mr. Shafik Fakih in 1991, Mr. Kamal El Jardi assumed the school administration and remained principal until his retirement in 2007. Despite the opening of a branch of the school in Qmatiyeh, the school witnessed remarkable progress during his leadership. Enrollment increased to 792 secondary-level students in the 2000–2001 academic year, and many students achieved top rankings in official examinations and received awards and scholarships.
In 2007, Mr. Atef Abi Hussein became principal. During this period, enrollment declined for several reasons, including the opening of another branch in Abadieh, reaching approximately 450 students by the time of his retirement in 2013. During the 2013–2014 academic year, Ms. Hayat Al Ahmadieh served as acting principal for one year, after which Ms. Sanaa Chouaib was appointed principal of the school.
In recent years, student enrollment decreased despite the continued preference of many students and parents to register at Aley Secondary School. This decline was due to several academic and regional factors, including the opening of nearby schools. However, enrollment has recently started to rise again, increasing by 64 students during the current year, representing a growth rate of 14%. According to parents, this reflects renewed confidence in the school and belief in its ability to remain among the best public and private schools in the area.
The school’s academic and official examination results over the past years demonstrate strong performance across all sections, with success rates generally exceeding 60% and reaching 100% in some cases.
The school currently employs 67 staff members, including teachers and administrators. Approximately 96% of the staff hold university degrees, including two doctoral degree holders and twelve master’s degree holders, while the remaining 4% are delegated from primary education and hold secondary-level qualifications.
